Bike Race

This week has been Hastings Old Town Carnival Week.  There is so much that happens over the week that it would be impossible to attend even half of the events I'm sure.  I know that many local residents actually take a week's annual leave so they can enjoy as much of it as they can.

One event that we always try and attend is the Bike Race.  Its a silly, fun and gentle event which we can walk to from home, picking up fish and chips on the way!

The idea of the bike race is simple - one has to pedal the bike from one end of the lane to another.  Well not quite that simple, the lane is steep, very steep.  The bike is quite old and doesn't have gears.  Oh, and one mustn't lift their bottom off of the seat!  To make sure of this, a note is placed under the riders bottom!

So that's it.  We wandered to the top of the lane (via a footpath) and sat there eating our fish and chips.  Then we wondered to the bottom of the lane and had a pint.  And then we wandered back up the hill, stopping to chat with friends.

When it looked like Little Owl couldn't keep her eyes open much longer, I put her in our carrier on my back, and we wandered back home along the seafront, stopping to watch the Morris dancing as we passed.

This is what the school holidays are all about!

  2. What a great community event, I can imagine that it's quite hard to peddle up the lane! Perfect for Summertime and enjoying what's on your doorstep. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.

  3. Sounds like fun! Thats the nice thing about a local event. When you need something at home you can just walk home and go back to the event! #countrykids
